BECOMING

Book by Michelle Obama

WOULD RECOMMEND FOR AN INSIGHT INTO FLOTUS!

Similar to most millennial’s, I have a special place in my heart for the Obamas, and there’s no doubt Michelle has had quite a remarkable life. The books starts ever so perfectly with her in her current home, in shorts, making a grilled cheese, and how out of nature it feels for her to simply take a plate out of a cupboard without assistance or supervision. The behind the scenes of her living in the white house, the security procedures and her accomplished academic background are all so fascinating. There are some parts that are a little dull, she delves quite deeply into her parts of her childhood that probably didn’t need to be so detailed but all in all an interesting read.

MUNICH, GERMANY

WOULD RECOMMEND FOR OKTOBERFEST!

If Oktoberfest in Munich isn’t on your bucket-list, add it now! It’s a wild wild time, with over 7 million people attending every year (most of them German). The festival is complete with rides, food stalls and beer tents, complete with just about everyone dressed up in traditional Bavarian clothes (lederhosen for guys, dirndls for girls), having a good time, and drinking lots and lots of beer.

BURN AFTER READING

Movie (Netflix)

WOULD RECOMMEND FOR AN UNDER-APPRECIATED, EASY TO WATCH MOVIE!

This weird movie is just about idiots being idiots, featuring some brilliant actors. The irony of a espionage movie with unwitty lead roles, is chaotic but entertaining and Brad Pitt is hilarious in it. The absurdity and chaos of the story line which is basically a compilation of mistakes and misunderstandings leads to unexpected events including a chair, a death and no lessons learned. Amusing nonetheless!

HEARTBURN

Audiobook (Audible) By Nora Ephron, Narrated by Meryl Streep

WOULD RECOMMEND FOR AN EASY LISTEN!

Written in 1983, heartburn is a classic, with the best key lime pie recipe to date. Food, drama, honesty and sass are the perfect way to describe this semi-autobiographical story, so who better to read this than the one, the only, Meryl Streep. Honestly, this was like a one woman play, Meryl brought so much life to each and every line, her narration was perfect and really took this to a whole other level. I feel like this could ruin all other audiobooks for me, because (if I haven’t said it enough already) her delivery was perfection.

THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE

TV Show (Netflix)

WOULD RECOMMEND FOR SOME DECENT HORROR!

A good horror movie or tv show is hard to find (mostly because it’s hard to pin point a set of fears that a particular piece of horror fiction could exploit without disappointing some of viewers), but this one had me hooked! The story line was a slow burn but perhaps contributed to the viewer becoming more invested in the characters. Keep an eye out for all the ghosts in the background, theres alot of hidden faces where you least expect them! Combined with plenty of jumps, gore, suspense and gasping moments, this is worth a watch for sure! Continue reading “THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE”

MAKING A MURDERER

TV Series (Netflix)

WOULD RECOMMEND FOR THE MOST TALKED ABOUT TRUE CRIME STORY!

Oh Yeah. Binged it in a day. The story of Avery’s is super fascinating, addictive and thought-provoking and you feel involved judging for yourself as to whether you think they are guilty or not. BUT the gaps in the evidence, Steven’s hopefulness at getting out one day andthe fact that he sued local officials before his sentencing all kind of lean one way (right?). Then there’s poor poor Brendan, whose confession tapes are cringeworthy af. Watching him say ‘they got to my head’ again lean towards his innocence. Combined with poor representation and controversial lawyers and barristers, this story becomes more and more complicated, and there is a mountain of related articles and opinion pieces for when you’re done.

LOVE

TV Show (Netflix)

WOULD RECOMMEND FOR AN EASY WATCH SHOW TO HAVE ON IN THE BACKGROUND!

Gus and Mickey’s relationship is a mess to say the least. You’ve got your classic ‘cool girl’, ‘nice guy’ combo and an unhealthy pattern of fighting and making it work again. So yes – we’ve seen this plot before, but for some reason this raw, realistic portrayal really got me hooked. It’s funny, it’s an easy watch and it’s on netflix – so add it to you’re list! Honourable mention to Mickey’s Australian roommate Bertie who gives the perfect rendition of true blue.

BUDAPEST, HUNGARY

WOULD RECOMMEND FOR RUIN BARS, THERMAL POOLS AND ARCHITECTURE!

Buda and Pest combine to make a wonderful city, which far exceeded my expectations and to which I am in a hurry to return to (one weekend was not enough). Not only was it full of impressive buildings, but the nightlife was super fun and different (in a good way). Also food and drinks were so inexpensive unalike to the rest of Europe.
